York Minster

York Minster is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Europe and the largest in England. Construction began in around 1220 and took just over 250 years to be completed; it was finally complete in 1472. This magnificent building contains so much history to explore and visitors and worshippers are welcome. York Minster unfortunately suffered a serious fire in 1984, where the South Transept was destroyed and the Rose Window shattered, but was rebuilt by 1988 at a cost of £2.25 million.

Prices
Tickets for the Minster can be booked online at yorkminster.org and prices are as follows:
- Adult/Senior – £11.50
- Students (not in York) – £9
- Students or residents in York (proof of address required) – Free
- Child (16 and under) – Free with a paying adult
Tickets for the Tower are available at the door as this is weather dependent. Visitors to the Tower must be 8+.
Parking
Parking is available nearby York Minster – Union Terrace Car Park is around a 5-minute walk and the postcode is YO31 7ES. You can pay for parking here by cash or card; if you’re using the RingGo App, then the parking code is 27714. Parking is cheaper if you use RingGo or have a Blue Badge. But standard rates are as follows:
- Up to 1 hour – £2.30
- Up to 2 hours – £4.60
- Up to 3 hours – £6.90
- Up to 4 hours – £9.20
- Up to 5 hours – £11.50
- Over 5 hours – £13
- Evening parking (between 6pm and midnight) – £2
