Richmond Park
Richmond upon Thames, London
Richmond Park is the largest of 8 Royal Parks in London and boasts an outstanding 2500 acres. Perfect for a woodland walk, run, bike ride or even a picnic. You could easily spend hours here enjoying the scenery, but equally great if you don’t have much time on your hands and just want a brisk walk with the dog.
Richmond Park is home to the Isabella Plantation, a beautiful 40-acre woodland garden complete with ponds surrounded by Evergreen Azaleas. The plantation was originally created in the 1830s and has been open to the public since 1953; the best time to visit the plantation is spring time when the flowers are blooming. You’ll find the closest car park is Broomfield Hill car park (TW10 5HZ).
If cycling takes your interest, then you have the option of renting a bicycle from ParkCycle at Roehampton Gate car park (TW10 5HR). ParkCycle also allows you to book in advance here.
Richmond Park is home to herds of deer, which majestically stroll through the park. Visitors are advised to keep dogs on leads to ensure the deer are not disturbed and, as a general rule, people should remain a minimum of 50 metres from the deer. Sometimes, you may find yourself within this distance as they can often be camoflaged, but remain calm and cautious; this is especially important during mating season (September to November).
