The London Eye

City of London

The London Eye is one of London’s most iconic landmarks and is a must-see if you are visiting the capital. It has 32 capsules (one for every London borough) and stands at 135 metres tall, offering some of the best views of London; with a total travel time of 30 minutes, it is easy to squeeze this into a busy day sightseeing. I would recommend booking online prior to arrival, because it can get quite busy during peak times, plus it is much cheaper!

The London Eye opened on New Years’ Eve 1999, and was appropriately named the Millennium Wheel; it officially opened to the public in March 2000 and was owned by British Airways, Marks Barfield (architectural firm), and the Tussauds Group – it is now owned by Merlin Entertainments.

The postcode for the London Eye is SE1 7PB and is located on the South Bank of the River Thames. There are several London Underground stations in the surrounding area, the closest being Waterloo – but also walkable from Charing Cross, Embankment and Westminster.
