John o'Groats

John o’Groats, Caithness

A small coastal village in the county of Caithness and almost as far north as you can possibly go on mainland Britain. Many visit John o’Groats for the iconic signpost, signalling the distance to various locations, including New York, Edinburgh and Land’s End. But it is also the start or end point for adventurers completing races or challenges, usually between the two ends: John o’Groats and Land’s End, a total of 874 miles.

There is plenty to keep you occupied here, including a gift and farm shop, a brewery and a cafe; if that was not enough, then you could also take a boat trip or a guided walk, followed by a stop at the ice cream parlour!

This is one of the many stops on the North Coast 500 route and there is accommodation in the area should you want to stay the night. Find out more about the NC500 here.

Prices

John o’Groats is free to visit, however, if you need to use the toilets, this will cost 20p.
