Duncansby Head is the most northeasterly point on mainland UK and it is home to Duncansby Head lighthouse, as well as the famous Duncansby Sea Stacks; arguably, the main attraction here! The striking sea stacks are thought to be around 6,000 years old and formed from red sandstone; the tallest stack is around 60 metres in height.
The sea stacks are easy to find and are roughly half a mile away from the lighthouse car park; the walk itself is straightforward and scenic. You can complete a short walk to the sea stacks and back or even take a longer walk continuing further round the coast for even more breathtaking views of Scotland’s stunning coastline.
This is one of the amazing stops along the North Coast 500 route. For more information, take a look at our NC500 page.
Duncansby Head and the sea stacks are free to visit and the walking route is beautiful!
There is a small free car park at Duncansby Head Lighthouse.
