Coniston Water

The Lake District

Coniston Water is the fifth largest lake (by area) in the Lake District, with a length of around 5 miles. It’s a popular choice for a variety of water sports, including rowing, kayaking, and paddleboarding; Coniston is also a much loved location for wild swimming and fishing. Nearby Coniston, you’ll find a well known fell, The Old Man of Coniston; if you’re prepared to hike, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Coniston Water. Find the hike information here.

If you want something a little less physical, then you can just enjoy the peaceful setting of Coniston Water from the shore. Relax at Bluebird Café with a coffee, while taking in the incredible views Coniston has to offer. You can even find a number of holiday lodge locations surrounding the lake for a peaceful UK getaway; this is the perfect retreat for families, couples, and even solo travellers. Dogs are also welcome at Coniston Water.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy at Coniston Water. Find prices at Coniston Boating Centre (hire boats, bikes, paddleboards, etc). Other centres are also available for similar services.

Parking

There are plenty of car parks around Coniston Water, so you should be able to find something local to your chosen activity. Some popular choices include Coniston Boating Centre and Brown Howe Car Park (prices below).

Coniston Boating Centre (Postcode: LA21 8EW). This is a great location for renting a boat, bike, or paddleboard. There are pay and display machines to pay for parking and they accept cash, card and contactless payments. Public toilets are available on site and prices are as follows:

  • Up to 2 hours – £3.00
  • Up to 3 hours – £4.20
  • Up to 4 hours – £5.40
  • Up to 5 hours – £6.60
  • Up to 9 hours – £8.00
  • Charges apply to all vehicles.

 

Brown Howe Car Park (Postcode: LA12 8DW). The car park is open everyday from 9am-6pm and public toilets are available on site. There is wheelchair and pushchair access to Coniston Water. Prices are as follows:
  • Up to 1 Hour – £1.30
  • Up to 2 Hours – £2.50
  • Up to 4 Hours – £4.00
  • All Day – £5.50
