Chatsworth House

Chatsworth, Derbyshire

Chatsworth House is a stunning stately home in the Derbyshire Peak District with hundreds of years of history. The estate boasts an incredible 1,822 acres and is currently occupied by the 12th Duke of Devonshire, Peregrine Cavendish, and his wife, Amanda Heywood-Lonsdale. Chatsworth was originally bought by Sir William Cavendish and his wife, Elizabeth Talbot (also known as the Bess of Hardwick) in the 16th century; you may also have heard of the nearby Hardwick Hall, which was built for the Bess of Hardwick in the 1590s.

The Chatsworth estate is located a few miles from the capital of the peak district, Bakewell. Even though the house is privately owned, it is open to explore; you can enjoy over 25 rooms of the property followed by a peaceful walk through the incredible 105-acre garden. Within the grounds, you will find a number of impressive water fountains, including the Cascade Fountain and the Emperor Fountain. You will find the Cascade Fountain to the left of the house and impressively running down from a higher point of the garden. And then behind the house, within a lake, you will find the Emperor Fountain shooting around 90m high.

Chatsworth has many exciting aspects to explore and you can easily spend a full day here. Why not navigate your way through the maze, enjoy afternoon tea in the tea room, or even have some fun on the farm with the kids. Chatsworth House is accessible to all and the gardens have plenty of wheelchair and pushchair friendly paths. For more information on accessible routes around the house and gardens, you will find an access map on the Chatsworth House website.
