Calton Hill

Edinburgh, Scotland

Calton Hill is arguably the best location in the city to watch the sunset or sunrise, with stunning views of Edinburgh. It is known for its ‘Greek style’ monument (based off the Parthenon in Athens), its wonderful bars and eateries, and of course, its incredible views of the city! From the top, you will be able to spot all of Edinburgh’s iconic locations, including Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat, and Holyrood Palace; you can also enjoy a lovely lunch or dinner at The Lookout. Many people take a picnic to enjoy during sunset; there are plenty of places to sit down and enjoy.

It is a relatively short walk up hill to reach the top, but as there are plenty of steps involved, it is not an ideal route for anyone with mobility issues. Find out more about accessibility in the parking section below.

Nearby attractions: Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street Garden.

Parking

Only disabled parking is available at the top of Calton Hill; other than this, there is no parking available. Cars and taxis are able to make drop offs and pick ups at the top of the hill.

Calton Hill is within walking distance of many other Edinburgh landmarks, with car parks also in close proximity. A nearby car park I would recommend is  Q-Park OMNI; the postcode for the car park is EH1 3AN. For prices, information and to book any parking, visit Q-Park OMNI.
